What is this "Jelly"?
Are you a creative professional working from home? Tired of talking to your cat/dog/walls/houseplant to break the silence?
Jelly is an every-so-often casual coworking session. Anyone is welcome to come, bring a laptop, and work alongside other creative, fun people. Hope to see you there! See workatjelly.com and this blog post for more background. Email if you want to start your own!
Where is it being held?
There are currently two different coworking groups in the metro Detroit area.
Detroit
The Icrontic crew host a coworking session at Foran's Irish Pub on Sundays. Contact Brian Ambrozy for more information.
Rochester Area
We meet every Thursday afternoon at various WiFi enabled coffee shops in the area, barring any conflicts. Sometimes we venture outside of Rochester to places like Royal Oak and Waterford. Consult the Rochester Area Coworking Meetup.com page for the current week's location. Brahm is usually there after lunch (arriving between 1:30-2 PM) with a Jelly speech bubble and/or Meetup.com sign on the table. Please contact him so he knows to look for you.
Some places the Rochester Area Coworking group has met:
- Bean & Leaf Cafe in Rochester (SW corner of University & Main. free WiFi, excellent coffee & tea)
- Biggby Coffee in Rochester Hills (zip 48309. free WiFi)
- Panera Bread in Rochester Hills at Adams & M-59 (free WiFi)
- Caribou Coffee in Rochester Hills (on Walton, west of Adams - NOT the one just west of Livernois. now has free WiFi)
- Bean & Leaf Cafe in Royal Oak (free WiFi, excellent coffee & tea)
Potential future locations for the Rochester Area Coworking group:
- Biggby Coffee in Auburn Hills (zip 48326. free WiFi)
- The Hills Bar and Grille (free WiFi. Need to determine the feasibility of working from here)
- Rochester Mills Beer Co (free WiFi) Update (2008.02.07): It was fairly empty at about 2 PM. The WiFi was a little weak at the north side of the restaurant. Though smoke did drift from bar area a little, it wasn't awful. It turned out to be more expensive than the coffee shop since I bought an ice tea and an appetizer (and left a tip!). The dinner crowd was just starting to arrive around 4:30 PM.
- Goldfish Tea in Royal Oak (free WiFi. Good atmosphere.) Update (2008.05.01): Delicious tea. However, WiFi dropped out semi-frequently and requires a new registration code every 2 hours. Cell phone reception was almost non-existent in the seating area in the back.
- CoffeeTime Cafe (links to a horrid myspace page, apologies) Free WiFi, tons of space, comfy atmosphere. I'd love to see something over on this side of town.
- Panera Bread in Waterford on M59 (Highland Road) and Crescent Lake Rd
- Irish Tavern in Waterford on Elizabeth Lake Rd, just southwest of M59 (Highland Road)
- John Cowley & Sons (irish pub, very tasty, free WiFi) in downtown Farmington on Grand River just east of Farmington Rd
- Stage 3 Studios in Warren (main cross streets: Van Dyke & 696). We'd have to bring our refreshments, but they have nice furniture, wireless and a creative "vibe"
